MORE than 5,000 cars use Watlington Road in Benson between 7am and 7pm on weekdays, according to the results of a traffic survey.
The Benson neighbourhood plan group commissioned Oxfordshire County Council to collect a week’s worth of data about transport use along six roads in June.
The statistics showed Watlington Road was the busiest road in the village, with 5,610 cars passing within the 12-hour period, followed by Church Road (4,982) and Oxford Road (3,356).
St Helen’s Avenue was the quietest of the roads surveyed, with 545 cars using it between 7am and 7pm, followed by Littleworth Road (881).
The highest speeds were recorded by drivers travelling westbound along St Helen’s Avenue with 19.2 per cent of cars going above the 30mph speed limit.
The data will be considered by the neighbourhood plan’s housing sub-team, which is looking at the issue of extra traffic caused by development.
