Drivers taking dangerous short cut

DRIVERS have been going the wrong way along one-way streets in Watlington to avoid roadworks.

DRIVERS have been going the wrong way along one-way streets in Watlington to avoid roadworks.

A section of Brook Street is currently closed and diversions are in place while an underground cable is laid as part of a major solar panel installation project.

The work began on Monday and is scheduled to last two weeks.

Drivers have been going the wrong way along Gorwell and the High Street.

Ian Hill, who chairs the parish council, said: “Apart from standing there and policing it 24 hours a day, I don’t know there’s much we can do.”

EcotecWorld was granted planning permission by South Oxfordshire District Council for the development on low quality arable land at Easington Manor Farm, near Chalgrove, in August.

The installation will deliver its power to an electricity substation in Springfield Close, Watlington, by way of an underground cable from Easington.

The cable will run from Cuxham into the town from the B480 and will go along Cuxham Road, Brook Street and Spring Lane. The route will run along both the verge and through the road where necessary.
