Minimum disruption from work

ROADWORKS in Henley town centre are progressing well.

Greys Road has been closed between Duke Street and Deanfield Avenue since February 2 so that a gas pipe can be upgraded.

A short diversion for drivers is in place.

Workmen have almost finished the area by the Greys Road car park and will be moving closer to the junction with Duke Street.

The work is expected to be completed by April 11.

David Nimmo Smith, Oxfordshire County Council cabinet member for transport, said the work was on track.

He said: â??Once the work near to the car park is done they are going to be moving up towards the traffic lights.â?

Councillor Nimmo Smithsaid the contractors had tried to leave parts of the road open where possible, adding: â??So far they have been quite sensible about it.â?

SGN is carrying out the work as part of £228,000 project to change the pipes from iron to a  plastic material, which has a lifespan of more than 80 years.
