ATHLETES from the Henley Junior Triathlon Club took to their road bikes to compete in the 2016 Newbury RIDE IT cycle sportive last Sunday.
The event was organised by Evans Cycles as part of a programme of sportives across the UK.
Twenty-one competitors from Tri Henley took part, aged 11 to 16. The club split into five groups based on ability, with each group supported by a pair of coaches or parents.
All competitors were chipped and club members completed the 50km distance and 600m of vertical ascent on rural roads in times varying from two to three hours.
Cycling conditions were hazardous, with rain overnight washing gravel and debris into the roads and causing a collective 17 punctures. However, despite the conditions all the Henley athletes completed the course in respectable times.
