AUSTRALIAN soap star Jessica Muschamp is campaigning to stop the development of Bugs Bottom in Caversham. In a letter to the Henley Standard, she asks for people to support the Bugs Bottom Action Group which is opposing the building of 500 homes on the border of Reading and South Oxfordshire. Muschamp, who plays Sharon in Neighbours, said: “I have recently spent a great deal of time in England and have come to adore your beautiful, unique countryside which deserves to be preserved.”

Disabled horse rider Kate McGregor, from Henley, and veteran horse Puffin walked away with a top dressage title recently. Despite having no hands, 12-year-old Kate produced the winning performance at the Riding for the Disabled southern region show in Newbury. The Gillotts School pupils now goes on to the national final in Warwickshire in July.

Plans to recreate the Phyllis Court Club grandstand as it was intended to be when it was built in 1912 have been submitted to South Oxfordshire District Council. The riverside club aims to replace the temporary canvas canopies with a permanent roof at first floor level and to enclose the two-storey grandstand in glass so that it can be used all year round.
