DURING the past week, encouraged by their headmaster, Mr F Eagle, the children at the Henley British School have been subscribing to the fund for helping starving children in Belgium. Up to last evening, 30s had been collected, and there are still a few more children to subscribe. When the collection is closed the money will be forwarded by Mr Eagle to the headquarters of the fund in London.
The new church bells at Wargrave were tested on Monday evening before being formally handed over by the founders (Messrs Meers and Stainback, Whitechapel). Mr Hughes, a representative of the firm, was present and witnessed the trial by eight of the old ringers who spoke in the highest praise of the ease with which the bells were rung.
A Lovegrove, 43, King’s Road, winner of over 1,000 prizes, two silver cups, gold and silver medals, was awarded on Saturday, July 8, at the London Cage Bird Show, two first prizes and two seconds, with four entries of four young Norwich Canaries bred this year, 1916.
