ON Saturday night fire swept through the premises of the Toga Manufacturing Company’s Warren Works at Cockpole Green. By the time the fire was under control in the early hours of Sunday the building was a twisted mass of metal and rubble with damage estimated at many thousands of pounds having been caused.

After just 14 years’ service in the parish of Bix, the Rev E Lewsey has announced that his resignation has been accepted by the Bishop. Mr Lewsey will be taking up a part-time appointment in the small parish of Dinder, near Wells, Somerset, helping the Bishop of Taunton.

In spite of the showery weather and many rival attractions, both locally and nationally, there was a very satisfactory attendance at the Binfield Heath and District Flower Show held at Holmwood, Binfield Heath, on Saturday. More than 150 exhibitors staged in excess of 600 exhibits, which was well up with the average totals, though less than last year’s record.
