Ten years ago...

THE owner of a bar which lost its licence claims he is “not welcome in Henley” because he is black. Dennis King, who runs the White Lotus Sports Bar in Hart Street, says he has been unfairly treated by police and the South Oxfordshire District Council’s licensing panel. Last month, the panel approved a police application to revoke the bar’s licence due to noise complaints and claims of drug-taking on the premises, underage drinking, inadequate staffing and assaults by members.

Foster mother Elaine Louks celebrated after winning the top prize at this year’s Sue Ryder Care women of achievement awards. Seen here with her are nominator Chrissie Phillips-Tilbury, she walked away with the lifetime achievement award for caring for 70 babies in 20 years. Mrs Louks, of Wood Lane Close, Sonning Common, attended the awards ceremony at Phyllis Court Club in Henley with her husband Chris and three grown-up children.

Hobbs of Henley’s proposed restaurant has had a planning appeal rejected. Managing director Jonathan Hobbs wanted outdoor seating and longer licensing hours for the restaurant in Station Road.
