THE wait is over — the Regal has finally returned. The moment all Henley film fans have wanted came in style on Wednesday with a glitz and glamour opening night. About 150 of the town’s leading lights gave the cinema the perfect start by turning out for a champagne reception and exclusive screening of The Crucible. They were lavish in their praise of the three-screen complex, which opens to the public today.
Councillors have been accused of snubbing Henley’s road woes in favour of improving conditions at their offices in Crowmarsh. They have angered residents by going back on a promise to save £100,000 for environmental projects from the transport study. Yet the district council will still keep £200,000 in its budget for its own heating improvements.
Surprised Goring resident Winston Harding has received a letter posted 23 years ago. His yellowing correspondence was delivered along with an apology from the Post Office and a pack of four first class stamps. Mr Harding said the letter was a receipt for a parcel he sent 23 years ago but it was so long ago he couldn’t remember what was in the package.
