FIRE caused an estimated £30,000 of damage at the Chess Set hairdressing salon in Duke Street, Henley, early on Wednesday morning. But, despite having to replace the wiring system, the boiler, telephones and plumbing system, Patrick King, the joint owner, aims to be back in business by Tuesday. The fire comes two months after £3,000 was spent on complete redecoration.

Hundreds of people converged on Henley’s Falaise Square on Sunday to give a vote of confidence to the first ever May Fair. After so many teething troubles it was encouraging for the organisers to see so many people there and the only trouble was trying to move through the crowds. It now seems likely that the May Fair will become an annual event.
