THE annual weight-guessing competition, in which prizes are offered to those who most nearly guess the weight of the best beast in class 3 at the Henley Fat Stock Show, resulted this year as follows: The weight of the animal has been returned as 119st 3lb. Mr W Morris won 1st prize with his guess being within 1lb of the correct weight.
Wednesday evening saw the advent of the tango in Henley, when Mr and Mrs Claud Batty, of the Henley Academy of Dancing, gave an exhibition in the town hall. Judging by the applause and demand for encores, it was met with the entire approval of the company, which numbered over 80.
Both as a social function and as a means of augmenting the Mayor’s Relief Fund, the whist drive that took place at the town hall on Tuesday evening was attended with a very gratifying measure of success. A number of leading residents and tradesmen indicated their practical sympathy with the efforts of the organisers by offering handsome prizes as a means of stimulating interest in the philanthropically conceived venture.
