THIEVES have ruined a family’s festive fun after burgling their home and stealing children’s presents from under the Christmas tree. They broke into the house in Deanfield Road, Henley, last Tuesday by forcing open a window at the back and climbing in. After ransacking the rooms, they escaped through the same window with the gifts, which included a DVD player and a Game Boy.

Henley faces a fight to keep Townlands as a fully functioning locality hospital under South East Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust’s consultation process, Mayor Barry Edwards said this week. He added that the proceeds from the sale of part of the site for housing needed to benefit the people of Henley directly. The trust said it was working hard to involve both public and staff in developing plans for services across South Oxfordshire and would be recruiting staff in the new year.

Residents were evacuated when a fire broke out at flats in Henley. Three people fled from the block in Reading Road, near Waterman’s Road, when the blaze started in a ground-floor bedroom on Thursday last week. A woman was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.
