CHAOS reigned as storm force winds hit South Oxfordshire yesterday. All roads into Henley were blocked by trees, felled by winds of up to 100 miles per hour. Flying masonry and other debris meant it was dangerous to even walk through the streets. One resident escaped injury when a tree fell through the roof of a building. Cars were reported to be lying crushed under at least eight trees blocking the A423 at Remenham. Emergency services were at full stretch and Oxfordshire Fire Service said priority was being given to calls which were life-threatening.

A warning has gone out to parents following an attack on a 15-year old school boy in Sonning Common on Monday. The youngster, a pupil at Chiltern Edge School, was on his way home at 4.30pm when a stranger approached him in Green Lane and tried to drag him into his car. Police said the boy put up such a fierce struggle that he was able to escape and the attacker drove off.

Psychic Uri Geller is helping police to find stolen baby Alexandra Griffiths by using his powers. Uri is spending an hour a day at his Sonning home studying a map of London in an attempt to locate the kidnapper. He told the Henley Standard: “If I feel a pull or a gut feeling then I mark the map immediately. At the moment I have a feeling for somewhere around Lambeth or Swiss Cottage.”
