AN application to give local public houses a closing time of 11pm instead of 10.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays from May to September each year was adjourned for 14 days when the matter came before the general annual licensing meeting for the Henley division on Tuesday in order that the general public could be given an opportunity of making their views known to the justices.

An inquiry into an appeal against the decision of Oxfordshire County Council to refuse permission for the erection of 14 ranch-style dwellings, with double garages and a service road, on land adjoining Woodwax Wood, Shiplake Rise, has been cancelled. It is understood that the applicant, Richard Todd, the actor, is making a fresh application for the development of the site.

Tests and experiments carried out to promote sound standards in consumer goods were witnessed by the Mayor and Mayoress when they visited the Retail Trading Standards Association’s testing laboratories at Westfield House, Henley, on Tuesday. Among the tests were those concerning flammability.
