FROM notices which are being placed in the shop windows it is evident that practically all the business establishments in Henley will remain open next Wednesday afternoon. Most of the provision shops will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day while the majority of the other business establishments will also be closed on the Tuesday after Boxing Day as well in order to give assistants an opportunity of getting away and having a good holiday.

A meeting of the committee appointed to consider the best arrangements to be made for utilising women’s services in the place of men who have joined the army was held last Friday. It has not been found possible to make all necessary arrangements for opening a register before Christmas.

Following the enthusiastic meeting held at the Royal Hotel on Wednesday last week there was a very busy time at the Henley Recruiting Office and the surgery in Hart Street where men came forward to be enlisted under Lord Derby’s recruiting scheme and to be placed in their groups in Army Reserve Class B.
