HENLEY MP Boris Johnson has said the situation over the future of Townlands Hospital is “absolutely dire”. He said the Thames Valley Strategic Health Authority had run out of money and services such as Townlands were going to be lost as a result. The Mayor, Councillor Ian Reissmann, warned: “There is a good chance Townlands could be closed and that it will happen very soon after the decision is made — possibly overnight.”

A businessman was beaten up and robbed by two youths as he walked alongside Red Lion Lawn in Henley in the early hours of Thursday last week. He was repeatedly punched, kneed and kicked around the head before the thugs took his wallet, credit cards, mobile phone and  cigarettes.

Residents in the Henley area woke up with a bang when the Hemel Hempstead fuel depot exploded. The blaze at the depot 30 miles away turned the sky above the area black on Sunday and Monday. Andy Bryan, chairman of Henley Town Football Club, was making a cup of tea at his Sonning Common home when he heard the bang. “It was just like a bomb going off,” he said. “It made me jump.”
