A STERN warning for parents to watch their children’s drinking habits over Christmas came this week from a leading youth worker. Jaswant Singh, from Henley Youth Centre, said that drinking among teenagers in Henley was a major problem and appealed to parents to set a good example during the festive season.

The Christmas toy appeal, which was organised by the Henley Standard in conjunction with the Lions Club and social services, has been a marvellous success. Children who might not have had much of a Christmas this year can now look forward to something a bit more special — thanks to our readers. Hundreds of toys have been brought into our premises in Station Road over the last two weeks.

Plans to build 52 flats aimed at first-time buyers and small families on land off Haywards Close in Henley were revealed this week. The Michael Shanly Group, from Beaconsfield, wants to build two blocks of  19 one-bedroom and 33 two- bedroom flats on the three-acre site close to Valley Road.
