SINCE coming to the Henley area about 20 years ago, author Joan Morgan has bought and converted various houses in the locality, these exploits being described in her book The Casebook of Capability Morgan. Now she has purchased the old clubhouse at Huntercombe Golf Club and has moved in to supervise the conversion.

Geoffrey Hollingworth, who has lived at 27 New Street, Henley, for the past 10 years, has been appointed head of BBC Radio’s newsroom. Mr Hollingworth joined the Manchester Guardian as a reporter after taking his degree in history and law at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He was later on the editorial staffs of the Yorkshire Post, the Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror.

The driver of a lorry carrying a load of sand escaped unhurt after it overturned and finished upside down in the garden of one of the cottages between the Flowing Spring and the Playhatch crossroads on the Henley-Reading road yesterday. A similar accident took place on this road at Shiplake in January.
