TWO police officers were injured after their car was rammed by a gang escaping from the scene of a ram raid in the early hours of Tuesday. The thieves had used a mechanical digger to smash a wall of the NatWest bank in Peppard Road, Sonning Common, before loading the cash machine into a pick-up truck and speeding off. Eyewitness Sean Smith, who lives 20 yards away, said: “It is not something you expect to see at that time of the morning.”

Henley Town Council will raise two petitions in a bid to stop changes to green waste collections in the town. South Oxfordshire District Council intends to bring in wheelie bins for green waste from late April. The bins could be collected fortnightly and cost users £29 a year to rent. They would replace green waste bags and Saturday morning skip collections at the station car park.

Singer Vince Hill is backing an ambitious idea for Henley to twin with Lauderdale-by-the-Sea in Florida, dubbed the “prettiest small town in America”. The veteran crooner has been a regular visitor to the Sunshine State and was made an honorary citizen of the town due to the charity concerts he has performed there.
