DURING the week the Assendon Spring, which commenced to run about a fortnight ago, has made great progress and got to within about 150 yards of Oxford Place Cottages at the Henley end of Fair Mile. All up the side of the road there is quite a wide, fast-running brook. It is expected that in the next few days it will have made its way to Northfield End, where it will run under the road and thence through Phyllis Court to the river.

During the past fortnight a party of lady gardeners (under the superintendence of Mrs S K Robins) have been working most afternoons in the gardens at Henley Union. Another party of lady gardeners has now commenced work in the gardens at Gillotts, Mrs E W Smith and Mrs Turner being in charge.

The Henley special constables and volunteer training corps were called upon to prove the efficiency of their scheme for the prompt extinguishing of all lights, of the regulation of traffic and of assembling to render assistance where necessary in case of air raid much sooner than was anticipated when on Friday night last, shortly after 11, the disquieting news was conveyed by the police that there was an air raid on this country.
