A MAN from Wargrave has been banned from installing a new 1.8m boundary fence at his property because it is too tall.
Neil Taylor had applied for permission to replace the existing 1.5m fence and install an artificial hedge at Rivermead Farm in Wargrave Road.
He said it would improve his privacy and the security of the property, which had been broken into several times.
He said: “There have been several occurrences of persons climbing over the low brick wall, walking on the roof and stealing roof tiles and lead flashing from between the roof and wall, which is obviously a severe concern for security and safety.
“In addition to addressing these concerns, the proposed fence will allow for a significant acoustic barrier to be introduced, minimising the disturbance caused to the occupiers from traffic noise.”
The application was supported by neighbours and Wargrave Parish Council did not object.
But Wokingham Borough Council said the fence would be inappropriate within the green belt due to the “excessive” height and length and choice of materials.
It also said the fence would “cause significant harm to the verdant character of the landscape”.
