Warning over rogue trader

RESIDENTS of Whitchurch have been warned to be vigilant after a suspected rogue trader targeted houses in the village.

Earlier this month, a man knocked on a resident’s door and offered to cut back a tree in his garden, claiming he was carrying out work at a neighbouring house.

The householder declined and later checked with the neighbour, who said he didn’t know the man and wasn’t having any work done.

Oxfordshire County Council, which is responsible for prosecuting rogue traders, says residents should never agree to a proposal on the doorstep.

Anyone seeking home or garden works should obtain written quotes from more than one business. Work should not be paid for in advance and never in cash.
