Private dining at hotel was a lunch to cherish

SOMETIMES an amazing location, atmosphere and staff knowledge come together to form an edible equilibrium.

SOMETIMES an amazing location, atmosphere and staff knowledge come together to form an edible equilibrium.

Such was the case at Hotel du Vin when we were "transported" during a lunch hour — as myself and team were treated to an exemplary private dining experience.

To start, canapés upon greeting and a glass of beautiful champagne matched the charming welcomes of the Hotel du Vin staff.

Each time I have frequented Hotel du Vin, I have been very much aware of "the extra mile". The whole team really cares about providing a total experience of delectable food and hand-picked wines, with an empty glass nowhere to be seen.

Starters comprised pumpkin and parmesan soup, ham hock terrine and celeriac remoulade, and harissa brushed sardines with slow grilled tomatoes on toast as a welcome start to the meal.

Moving on to mains, we enjoyed Normandy chicken dijonnaise, smoked haddock fishcake with poached egg and butter sauce, and risotto milanese with sweet peas and baby spinach.

The risotto was literally the very best I have ever eaten, with a freshness and blend of flavours to tantalise the tastebuds.

My colleagues inform me that both the chicken and haddock were full of flavour and an absolute delight to the palate, epitomising the supreme skill of the chef.

The selection of wines to accompany each meal was chosen with visible expertise, and flowed beautifully in conjunction with the abundance of exquisite flavours.

For dessert, crème brulée, apple tartin and a selection of French and English cheeses were a real treat. The crème brulée caramelised to perfection, the contrast of the tartin with the crème normande and the select flavours of the cheese and fruit were an absolute joy.

To conclude, Hotel du Vin is exceptional in its staff, its forethought, and its ability to produce supreme food within the incredible private dining experience.

I am already enquiring as to when we can return. Thank you Hotel du Vin, for a very special lunchtime.
