Gillotts team go from strength to strength

THE Gillotts School ski team have been working hard over the winter with the race team

THE Gillotts School ski team have been working hard over the winter with the race team in Austria and France and the school taking a group to Italy where it is hoped more students will take up an interest in racing.

Lily, Danielle and Zara Hawkins who along with Josephine Davis were the number two ranked English Schools Girls’ U16 team, took on the Kandahar in St Anton, Austria, with all the Hawksin girls recording times over 90kmph.

The team will next be in action on April 20 at Hemel Hempstead indoor snow centre for the Caxton FX Indoor Schools Championships and then at Southampton dry slope on May 4 for the Southern Inter Schools Championships. With another good summer season on the increasingly popular UK national and schools race circuit a number of the team now has aspirations and the potential to compete on next winter’s Alpine circuit in Schools and English/British Alpine Championships.

Meanwhile team manager Nigel Hawkins is looking to attract sponsors as well as new skiers.

The team train on Monday and Friday evenings on indoor snow and dry slopes as members of Hemel Race Club that currently boasts almost 300 members.

Potential sponsors and skiers should contact Nigel on 07528 500902 or nhawkeye@btinternet.com
