Pub owner in court

THE owner of the former White Lion pub at Crays Pond is due to appear at the High Court on Thursday to face claims that he is using the premises as his family home without permission.

Satwinder Sandhu, who bought the closed pub in 2013 and then moved in with his family, is accused by South Oxfordshire District Council, the planning authority, of failing to comply with an enforcement notice ordering the unauthorised use to cease.

Mr Sandhu says he is complying because he has opened a business named Whisky Haveli which serves the spirit and a choice of mixers.

He has converted the front room into a bar and says another room may be hired for private functions.

However, following a visit by enforcement officers, the council says he still isn’t meeting the requirements.

The hearing was due to take place in November but was deferred after Mr Sandhu successfully argued that the council hadn’t clearly explained what he should do in order to comply. He represented himself in court.
