Slough Town and Wycombe Wanderers advanced to the quarter finals of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup last night (Wednesday) with emphatic away victories at Beaconsfield Town and Burnham respectively.

The Rebels put their disappointing league form to one side once again as they swept to an impressive 8-0 victory over step four hosts Beaconsfield Town at Holloways Park.

Scott Davies’ side came into this third-round tie off the back of six straight league defeats in the National League South, but they’ve played with a sense of freedom in the cup competitions this season, and the Rams were butted to one side by this powerful display.

It took the visitors just 11 minutes to break the deadlock at Holloways Park and the goals came at regular intervals after that as the score racked up.

Nnaemeka Anyanwu connected with Harvey Walker’s right-wing cross to make it 1-0 and then turned provider with an excellent piece of skill in the area to tee up Wiktor Makowski for Slough’s second in the 21st minute.

The visitors then went through the gears before the break with Walker adding a third with a fine low strike from outside the area in the 26th minute before Makowski slotted home coolly from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark after being taken down by Rams’ keeper Dymott in the area.

Dan Roth completed the first half scoring when he latched onto a brilliantly flighted ball over the top from player manager Scott Davies. Roth kept his cool to walk the ball around Dymott before tapping home in the 36th minute.

Slough rested Roth and Davies for the second half - with one eye on Saturday’s FA Trophy second round clash with Gloucester City at Arbour Park. Luke Holness and White came on in their place, and both contributed to the Rebels biggest win of the season.

The second half was more competitive, but the Rebels retained their clinical edge in front of goal.

Tyrique Clarke made it 6-0 in the 66th minute, tucking the ball into the bottom corner of the net after being well picked out by Jared Myers.

Holness then scored his first goal for the club when he confidently dispatched a shot beyond Dymott after being sent clean through on goal. The Rebels then brought up their eighth goal of the evening in fine style when Jaiden Drakes-Thomas curled the ball home from 25-yards.

The hosts had some late chances and will feel they should have scored at least one consolation goal. however, Adam Desbois thwarted them with a couple of late saves to preserve his side’s clean sheet.

The performance should give Davies and his players real heart as they move into a crucial juncture of the season. They’ll look to progress past Southern League Premier Division visitors Gloucester City in the second round of the FA Trophy at Arbour Park on Saturday before attempting to rectify their concerning league form with home games against Farnborough, Worthing and AFC Totton. Their FA Cup second round clash at home to Macclesfield is also looming on the horizon, with the clubs set to clash for a place in the third round of the competition on Sunday, December 7 (12.30pm).

Elsewhere in the competition last night (Wednesday), step 5 hosts Burnham were ousted by Wycombe Wanderers Academy after a 3-0 defeat at the 1878 Stadium.

The Blues were competitive for much of the first half against the Chairboys but fell behind in the 25th minute when Savage teed up Koray Gurpinar who lashed a shot beyond Archie Cunningham.

Burnham came within inches of levelling the tie on the stroke of half time but were denied by a spectacular goal line clearance.

Had they scored, the course of the game might well have changed, but instead, Wycombe went on to take control of the game with Cameron Stones scoring from the penalty spot in the 65th minute and Micah Olabiyi sweeping home the visitors third.

The draw for the quarter finals was also made this morning (Thursday) with Slough Town set to host Abingdon United or Newport Pagnell Town, Bracknell Town to entertain Wycombe Wanderers. Winslow United or Maidenhead United will be at home to Reading and Hungerford Town will host Chesham United or MK Dons. Those ties are to be played by the week commencing December 8.
