Men convicted after street race

TWO men have been jailed for causing the death of a pedestrian during a street race.

Irene Rodriguez-Caballero, 36, was walking in Caversham Road, Reading, with her partner Jonatan Bosque when she was struck by a car and died in hospital two days later. Mr Bosque, 34, suffered serious life-changing injuries.

David Puryer, 24, of Rotherfield Way, Emmer Green, and Oliver Enstone, 27, of Waller Court, Caversham, were both sentenced to four years and eight months? imprisonment at Reading Crown Court after admitting causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

On December 27 last year, Puryer was racing his Vauxhall Astra against Enstone in a Seat Leon when he lost control and the car mounted the pavement and collided with Miss Rodriguez-Caballero and Mr Bosque.

The men were both disqualified from driving for seven years and four months and had their vehicles forfeited.
