Former aircraft maker celebrates 100th birthday

Family and friends gathered to mark the a milestone birthday of a man born in the same year the Titanic sunk and Robert F Scott ventured to the South Pole.

Jack Ashpool celebrated his 100th birthday in style with balloons and a dinner party at Nicholas House in Burnham.

The centenarian wore a yellow birthday sash and showed off a card from the Queen to more than 30 guests including the deputy mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead Cllr Andrew Jenner who gathered at the Lent Rise Road home.

Jack, who made aircrafts during the Second World War, was also joined by his daughter Mandy Smith.

Manager Donna Bristow said: "It was a lovely day to celebrate Jack's birthday. He's such a special and genuine person."

The party was held on November 29.
