THE first ever major exhibition of Stradivarius instruments in the UK opens at Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum in June.

Antonio Stradivarius is the only maker of musical instruments whose name ranks alongside those of the great composers, and the violins and cellos he constructed are still prized among classical musicians.

The instruments on display will date from his Golden Period, from 1700 to 1720, and the exhibition will also feature a recreation of his workshop, including his original tools.

The exhibition runs from June 13 to August 11.
