A GROUP of felt-makers met at Sonning Common village hall.

Gwyn Ryan, who lives in the village, has been running the Reading area group for three years.

She said: “I started five years ago after I went to a spinning and weaving conference and was asked if I wanted to try felt-making. I have been hooked on it ever since.”

The group uses felt to make pieces such as a child’s clown’s outfit that Mrs Ryan created by stitching together pieces of different coloured felt. It took her about two weeks to make.

The groups meet once a month when membera create pieces for their annual exhibition in the autumn. This year’s show will take place at the village hall on November 21 and 22.

Members also attend conferences to meet other enthusiasts and learn new techniques.

Mrs Ryan said: “The skills we learn carry over to other crafts because we do stitching and sewing.”
