A RECORD number of cyclists took part in this year?s Ride for Ryder event.
Three hundred people rode 60, 25 or 10 miles as part of the seventh annual ride through the Chiltern Hills, which started and finished at the charity?s Nettlebed hospice.
Competitors had their performances chip-timed for the first time.
After the ride, the cyclists enjoyed a barbecue provided by Kitchen Angels and music by JJ of Eight Ray Music. The event was sponsored by VOTWO events, AW Cycles in Caversham, which offered bike assistance on the day, and Ultimate Sports Nutrition, which supplied energy bars.
Fund-raiser Vicki Collins said: ?I have been overwhelmed by the positive response from all the riders and would like to thank our sponsors and volunteers without whose help this event wouldn?t happen.
?If every cyclist reached their £100 fund-raising target, this should see £30,000 raised for Sue Ryder, helping us continue offering our expert care to patients living with life-limiting illnesses.?
The date for next year?s ride will be announced later this year. Meanwhwile, about 330 people took part in an eight-hour endurance duathlon on the Hambleden Estate on Saturday.
Solo athletes and teams of three or five completed alternating loops of an off-road 5km trail run and 7.5km mountain bike circuit within a set time.
Many of the HellRider competitors were raising money for Clic Sargeant, the event?s offical charity, as well as their own chosen causes.
Athletes and their friends and families were able to camp at the site. Live music and a bar were available after the event finished. The race had taken place in High Wycombe in the previous two years.
Organiser Paul Magner said: ?This course offered some testing ascents. I think most people found it a fair degree harder than before, which we were happy about as we like to put the ?hell? in HellRider.?
The Zest Challenge 2013, in association with Alpro, will be held at the Hambleden Estate on June 15.
About 1,000 people have already signed up for the women-only 5km and 10km off-road obstacle races.
