ABOUT 50 members attended the 32nd annual meeting held at St Barnabas’s Church hall.

Chairman Annette Fairweather presented the annual report, which had previously been circulated to members.

Treasurer Bill Harper introduced the accounts and reported that the association had received a donation of £500 following the closure of the Bugs Bottom Action Group.

A suggestion was made that this should be used for a specific project — please get in touch if you have any ideas.

Annette thanked outgoing vice-chairman Barry Prior for all that he had contributed. He is succeeded by Michael Denoon-Slater.



Bill Harper, Liz Lyke, Linda Glithro and Veronica Leeke are continuing as committee members.

Margaret Ormonde has stepped down from the committee but has offered to maintain an interest in environment and health for the association.

Doffi Parkinson is taking over as membership secretary from Annette. Membership stands at a healthy 500-plus families.

Sue Drayton is the new noticeboard co-ordinator, overseeing the team of volunteers who manage the noticeboard in the precinct.

After considerable research into suitable materials, we are replacing the noticeboard  surface.

Annette gave thanks for the support of a number of members with tasks such as newsletter delivery and notice board maintenance.

The wider involvement of members to supplement the work of the committee was appreciated and offers of help were always welcome.

Members had planted more than 1,000 daffodil bulbs in autumn last year to replace those that had mysteriously disappeared from the green.

At the conclusion of the formal business Ken Fostekew, of the Museum of Berkshire Aviation, gave a fascinating presentation on the activities during the First World War of the Technical Training School for the Royal Flying Corps (later the RAF), located in Reading.

Richard Bennet, from the Trooper Potts Association, was also present with a display of material on the memorial project.

On Saturday, July 23 the association’s outing was to BBC Caversham Park, where an episode of the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow was filmed recently.

It will be broadcast later this year, giving many other local residents the opportunity to see the beautiful grounds. In June, police community support officer Matthew McVinnie gave a worthwhile talk on crime  prevention.

A further talk on home security and safety issues has been booked for Saturday, November 5 at 1pm.
