FACE-PAINTING and music were among the attractions at a party in Nettlebed to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Despite overcast conditions, more than 200 locals attended the event at the village club in High Street on Saturday.
Tables in the courtyard were decorated with Union flags while the stage inside featured a banner with a picture of the Queen and a message reading: “Celebrating 90 years, God save the Queen”.
Linda Adams-Leah, from Crocker End, had made a cake for the occasion bearing the royal insignia. She said: “This is the third royal cake I’ve done after one for the wedding in 2011 and the Queen’s diamond jubilee in 2012.
“When I was asked this time I said I’d be delighted. I’m a royalist and I think the Queen is a wonderful woman. Long may she continue to reign.”
Some guests dressed in their finest clothes for the occasion, while Roger Etherington, who manned the entrance, donned a Union flag bow tie, waistcoat and socks.
Gwennie Hunter, nine, a pupil at Nettlebed Community School, said: “I’m here to celebrate the Queen’s birthday and catch up with my friends.
“I think the Queen is very pretty and this morning she was very green as well!”
Organiser Lou Campbell said: “Everybody had the most fantastic time and it seemed to be a huge success.
“I think the Queen is amazing — I’d much rather have her than our elected politicians!”
