A MYSTERIOUS door has appeared on the side of Sonning bridge.

The black door, along with a floating doormat underneath it, popped up overnight on Sunday.

Amused boaters and pedestrians on the stretch of the River Thames have been taking pictures of it.

The door, which has a letterbox, knocker and keyhole, resembles that of 10 Downing Street, now the home of new Prime Minister and Sonning resident Theresa May.

The door is not the first strange installation to appear on the bridge. In 2013, a postbox popped up overnight, while there has also been a sign warning boaters about skidding.

In 2014, a giant Google Maps-style “pin” was erected on the nearby Playhatch roundabout, before an empty tent and clothes line was put up on the same roundabout in November.

It is believed all the mysterious items could be the work of an unnamed local artist.
