ORGANISATIONS in Henley will be able to hire flagpoles and banner arms in the town centre to promote their events.
It will cost £50 per week to hire two of the three flagpoles in Market Place.
The town council agreed the move following a request from the Henley Festival to use the flagpoles in the first two weeks of July to promote the event.
The application was initially denied because councillors were concerned it could clash with the town’s entry in the Britain in Bloom competition but they then agreed a compromise that each organisation uses one flagpole.
In January, councillors granted permission for organisers of the Henley Youth Festival to use the flagpoles during their event this month. The organisers of the Continental markets, Henley Fringe and the Henley Literary Festival have indicated they would also be interested in using them.
Town clerk Mike Kennedy will be asked to approve applications. Anyone who hires flagpoles must collect them from the Tesco depot and pay a deposit and the hire fee, which covers the cost of the parks service erecting them. The hirer will also be responsible for health and safety and taking out public liability insurance.
