HIGH-SPEED broadband in Peppard is at least six months away, says a parish councillor.

Better Broadband for Oxfordshire says that some of the cabinets in the parish are ready.

But Councillor Simon Crouch says that contact service providers are still unable to provide the service.

He said: “We do have better broadband coming to Peppard. The question is when can we be connected? It’s useless until it is connected.

“If you speak to internet service providers they can’t give you a date.

“The first area will be the bottom of Stoke Row Road. It’s fair to say one of the reasons it’s going to be first is because it’s on the 0118 network, which is a spin-off from Kidmore End, which is a spin-off from Reading. They will be the first to enjoy it within six to 12 months but people are very cagey about giving out dates.”

Currently most villages receive a broadband speed of 4mbps but this should rise to 24mbps.

Better Broadband for Oxfordshire plans to provide high-speed fibre broadband to more than 95 per cent of homes and businesses across Oxfordshire. It says the cabinets around the Blounts Court Road, Stoke Row Road and Gravel Hill crossroads have been completed.

Almost all the cabinets in Stoke Row Road after the Gallowstree Road junction, going towards Stoke Row, are due for completion by the end of the year while those around the common near Peppard Primary School are due to be finished by the end of next year.
