Local attractions showcase events in Henley

HENLEY’s festivals, events and other attractions launched their new programmes with a showcase in the town centre on Saturday.

There were stalls in Market Place promoting the River and Rowing Museum, Henley Festival, the Henley Literary Festival, Henley in Bloom, the Fawley Hill Steam and Vintage Weekend, the Thames Traditional Boat Festival, Music on the Meadows, the new Henley on Food festival and Midsomer Murders tour guides Henley Hosts.


Musician Georgia Michel performed while the museum’s Mr Toad entertained children and posed for photographs with visitors.

The Visit Henley initiative was launched by the town council as part of English Tourism Week.

Staff and volunteers from the different organisations were on hand to talk to members of the public, answer questions and discuss volunteering opportunities.

Interim town centre manager Rachel Rae said: “Despite the weather, it went really well. It’s a new initiative and it was good to see some of the big names there, like the Henley Festival, River and Rowing Museum and literary festival, and it was nice to give everyone a platform to promote themselves.

“It helped that we had it on the same day as the Design Day as there was more footfall in the town.”

Miss Rae said the event would be repeated next year.

“It has got a lot of potential,” she said. “It’s a really nice way to showcase all the fantastic things that go on in Henley for visitors and residents.”
