Residents group to campaign on ‘affordable’ housing

HENLEY Residents Group has launched its manifesto for next month’s Henley Town Council and South Oxfordshire District Council elections.

It is fielding 12 candidates in the town council election, eight of whom are sitting members, as well as four new faces, Michelle Thomas, John Hooper, Paula Isaac and Rob Romans.

Stefan Gawrysiak, Kellie Hinton and Ken Arlett will be standing for the town council as well as for the three vacant spots on the district council for the Henley ward.

The party says it will be pursuing policies to improve roads, traffic and parking as well as supporting the local economy, community and promoting a sustainable environment.

It has pledged to promote policies at both councils that will provide “truly affordable” housing together with the supporting infrastructure.

Gill Dodds, the leader of HRG, said: “I believe our candidates represent a very strong team, offering people with experience and with new ideas. It is the ideal mix for a group that is independent of national politics.

“I am sure our new councillors will continue HRG’s long-standing tradition of serving the interests of Henley in the best possible way as independent councillors accountable only to the residents of Henley.”

HRG first stood in local elections in 1991, gaining control of the town council and holding a majority for 22 years. It is the current ruling party.
