MICKLANDS Primary School in Caversham has been given a ?good? rating by education watchdog Ofsted.
Inspectors, who spent two days at the school last month, praised headteacher Sharon Jones, saying she provided exceptional leadership.
Their report said she was persistent in her quest to improve the school in every aspect so that pupils were given the best opportunity to succeed.
It also said pupils spoke with great pride about their school, where there was an exceptionally calm, friendly and nurturing atmosphere.
Pupils made accelerated progress in most year groups and the proportion achieving and exceeding the expected levels in reading, writing and mathematics was ahead of the national average.
Mrs Jones said: ?We are extremely proud of our new overall grading of ?good? and the grading of ?outstanding? for personal development, behaviour and welfare.
?This represents a rapid move forward from our previous grading and is as a direct result of the continuing tireless work of all of those involved with the school.?
Polly Schofield, who chairs the governors, said: ?The report clearly identifies the central role that the children play in our school and how their behaviour and attitude is central to our distinctive ethos.?
