FORMER Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman will be returning to the Henley Literary Festival this autumn, with several other top broadcasters and some of the country’s most popular writers among the latest names to be announced.
Bestselling novelists Robert Harris, Victoria Hislop and Sebastian Faulks will each be discussing their careers and latest books at the festival, held in association with Baillie Gifford, which takes place at venues across Henley from September 26 to October 2.
Events for children include One Show nature expert Mike Dilger, a celebration of Roald Dahl in his centenary year, and acclaimed illustrator Salvatore Rubbino.
Paxman, who left Newsnight in 2015 after 25 years, will appear at a special event in conversation about his much-anticipated autobiography days before its general release.
The festival will also reunite Paxman with Robert Harris, his co-author on A Higher Form of Killing: The Secret History of Gas and Germ Warfare.
Published in 1982 and updated in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, this was the first book either man ever wrote and remains in print today.
Woman’s Hour presenter Jenni Murray will discuss her forthcoming book A History of Britain in 21 Women: A Personal Selection, while TV presenters Ben Fogle and Alan Titchmarsh also both return to Henley with their latest literary offerings.
Filmmaker Shamim Sarif will present a screening of Despite the Falling Snow starring Charles Dance, an adaptation of her own novel.
Tickets for more than 150 events for adults and children go on sale in July, with Friends of the Festival receiving priority booking.
Speakers already announced include Michael Heseltine, Lucy Worsley, Nadiya Hussain and Wilko Johnson.
The festival is once again operating a Friends membership scheme. As well as priority booking and exclusive ticket offers, Friends can save throughout the year with festival partners including the Hotel du Vin, the Quince Tree, Strada, CAU and Wigg Hairdressing.
