STUDIO ONE in Nettlebed offers an extensive range of classes for all body types and abilities.
Pilates For Men Beginners’ Course
Pilates is often thought of as an exercise programme for women. However, the Pilates method was created by a man, Joseph Pilates, whose main students when he first started to teach, were male. Many athletes also practise the Pilates method to enhance their sporting activity.
Men are often tighter in the hips and hamstrings and generally lack flexibility, often leading to stiffness and back pain. Men who have developed powerful muscles may be finding that their movement patterns are inhibited due to over-dominant muscles. Pilates is an ideal class to increase mobility and rebalance the body, while being gentle on the joints. The Thursday evening Pilates for Men course starts at 6.30pm on September 5.
Beginners’ Pilates Course
Beginner classes allow you to grasp the basic elements of Pilates. They are also ideal if you are experiencing joint pain or recovering from injury.
They are specifically designed for strengthening your core stability without compromising movement that would be inappropriate at this stage. The Thursday evening small group beginners course starts at 7.30pm on September 5. Please email sarah@classicpilates.co.uk for Pilates bookings and more details on other enrolment details for 2013 and 2014 courses.
Golden Yoga (60+)
It is widely accepted that yoga has a positive effect on health, promoting harmony in mind, body and spirit. However, in the Western world many yoga classes have become very focused on the physical poses and in our competitive society that can leave people feeling that they cannot attend a class because their body is not “bendy enough” especially later in life when inevitably the body is less flexible.
A specialised yoga class starting on Thursday mornings at Studio One is designed for the more mature and addresses concerns by creating a friendly non-competitive atmosphere.
The saying goes “if you don’t use it you’ll lose it” and attending regular yoga sessions certainly helps maintain mobility and range of movement in the joints as well as keeping muscles toned and strong. These things are particularly important for those suffering with osteoarthritis or osteoporosis, conditions which benefit from gentle exercise which guards against the body seizing up, especially during cold winter months!
The new Golden Yoga sessions aimed at the 60+ age group start in February 2014 on Thursdays at 11am. For more details, please call Jen on 07767 607175 or email jen@nickhunt.net
Iyengar Yoga with Adrienne Riel
Studio One has pleasure in introducing Adrienne Riel, a new Iyengar yoga teacher at Studio One. She comes highly trained from the Iyengar Yoga Centre, Sarva and has been practising Iyengar for 13 years.
Iyengar yoga builds strength and flexibility through the poses. It pays exquisite attention to re-aligning the body creating better posture and freedom from everyday aches and pains.
The lessons consist of simple exercises gradually moving towards more advanced poses and followed by 10 to 15 minutes of relaxation and breathing techniques giving freedom from stress and tension.
Through regular yoga practice both the circulatory and the respiratory systems become more healthy and thus the body is better prepared to fight off disease. Yoga is suitable for men and women of all ages. Please email iyengar988@yahoo.com for Iyengar yoga bookings and more details.
Nordic Walking
We all know that regular walking can improve our health and wellbeing. Nordic walking is becoming increasingly popular as a way of exercising and is an enhancement of ordinary walking. It is one of the most complete forms of exercise you can do. Walking with poles, it works all the major muscles in the body without putting unnecessary strain on your joints. Based on solid research, Nordic walking has been shown to provide many health and fitness benefits.
This unique form of exercise has many advantages, both for healthy and fit individuals who want to increase their workouts and gain additional cardiovascular benefits as well as for those with medical conditions that restrict them from jogging or running.
So it’s something that can be done at a variety of levels — for those new to exercising, returning to exercise as well as increasing fitness.
