Interiors shop celebrates 10th anniversary

A HOME décor shop in Henley has celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Biggie Best, a South African brand first set up in 1978 in Cape Town by Pru Pfuhl, was opened in Duke Street, Henley, in 2014 by Mark Pfuhl, to join branches in Tunbridge Wells and Marlow.

Store manager Elizabeth Hook, who started working at the shop when it opened, credited its success to the competitive pricing and close customer-staff relationships.

She said: “We’ve survived because we have got many loyal customers. Most of them are local.

“If they need to have a present or to have something quickly, they know that they just come in and find it.

“Both the town and business were a lot busier when we opened. Covid has hit it as well as the hard times.”

Gillian Nowak, who has been a sales assistant for five years, said: “I love it. They’re a great team here with Elizabeth at the helm. She’s captain and she’s really good.”

Katie Potter, another sales assistant, added: “I’ve been here nine years. It’s fun. We meet different people every day and it’s a friendly environment and a nice company.

“We know our customers and they just come in for a chat sometimes, even if they don’t buy. It has a good community feel.”
