Children’s author Giles Andreae opened the new learning centre at the Heights Primary School in Caversham. Mr Andreae, best known for his Purple Ronnie and Edward poems, read to pupils at the new centre before visiting classrooms at the school in Gosbrook Road to teach poetry workshops.

Headteacher Karen Edwards said: “It was a real treat for the children to meet one of their favourite authors in person and to experience him reading his own work was simply amazing.

We were all inspired and entertained by his brilliant poetry workshops and the children couldn’t wait to start writing their own rhymes.”
