50th celebrations at The Colleton
The Colleton Primary school celebrated ’50 years of The Colleton’ on Friday, February 9.
Staff, pupils, governors and members of the community joined together for a special celebration that looked at the past, present and future of the school.
Helping to commemorate half a century in Twyford was MP for Maidenhead, Theresa May, who toured the school, taking in an exhibition of various artefacts from the past fifty years.
Members of the school council led the tours and a tree was planted in the school’s sensory garden. It had been donated by the children who left the school in September.
To mark the occasion and to honour the memory of a former staff member, Jennette Hotson, a reading chair and tree were officially opened by her family members.
Ms May said that she was pleased to be asked to join past and present governors and pupils at the 50 years of The Colleton celebration.
“I had a great tour of the school ably led by Ida and Alex. Colleton has always had its own way of encouraging learning which has served the children well and long may it continue.”
There were some fun and engaging interactive elements to the day’s celebration with the children gathering outside in the morning to create a human ‘50’ for a special drone shot plus visitors throughout the day were asked to vote on which infographic best represented the school’s values of ‘kindness, responsibility and courage’ and a new strapline.
“Everyone one had a lovely time sharing memories and catching up with each other,” said headteacher Michelle Law.
“After school current pupils and families viewed the exhibition and plans for Telly Tubby Hill before starting their half term break.
“The day finished with teaching staff joining the party for cake and a cup of tea.”
The school is currently fundraising for a playground regeneration project of ‘Telly Tubby Hill’ for which donations were made on the day.
