A TREE was brought down as Storm Barney hit the Henley area last night.

Gusts of up to 85 miles per hour were reported but very little damage was caused. About 150 homes near Reading were without power during the night.

The tree fell at the junction of Vicarage Road and Western Road at about 10pm and brought down some telephone lines.

It was reported by an off-duty fireman who lives nearby and later contractors came to remove it using a chainsaw.

Conditions calmed down during the early hours.
