EVERY reader who entered a Henley Standard offer of a free painting of their dog will get their wish.
Artist Clive Hemsley, of Hart Street, Henley, has agreed to paint portraits of all 40 dogs whose photographs were submitted.
When the offer was published in the paper in on November 27, it promised that only seven readers would receive a picture but because of the large number of entries, Mr Hemsley has agreed to satisfy them all. The first seven will be ready for Christmas.
He said: “I couldn’t let people down. So many of the pictures are so lovely and the owners clearly adore their dogs. Others need reshooting and I will contact the owners as camera phones are not always in focus. I was particularly touched by people who sent in photos of dogs that had died.”
The remaining pictures will be completed in the new year.
This is the second year he has made the gesture and means that by the time he has finished the artist will have painting more than 250 Henley Standard readers’ dogs.
Simon Bradshaw, editor of the Henley Standard, said: “Once again this a magnificent gesture by Clive and characteristic of his good nature. He has been working almost non-stop on the paintings so for him to agree to do them all really is wonderful.”
Mr Bradshaw said he would be contacting owners when their paintings were ready.
