PUPILS at Chiltern Edge School in Sonning Common have made planters for a community gardening group.
Members of the school’s 3D design club presented the two wooden tubs to the Village Gardeners and their organiser Chrissie Phillips-Tilbury.
Each planter has a plaque which was printed at the school using a laser printer. Both have images of flowers and one says “community” while the other says “partnership”.
The pupils made the planters during 12 hours of after-school sessions, having walked around the village and looked at the design of the existing tubs.
The gardeners have not yet decided where they will be placed but the children will help plant them up.
Jon Swift, 11, who helped to sand and paint the planters, said: “It was a really fun project and it was good to be helping the community.”
The other members of the club were Matt Hall, Tim Hinckley, Kim Gough, Millie Bowen, Justine Nash, Finn Kircher, Harry Ellis, Brooklyn Mackenzie-Black and Sally Pearce.
Mrs Phillips-Tilbury, a parish councillor, said: “The planters are marvellous. The only brief I gave the children was to make them big and put drainage in and they have exceeded my expectations.”
Barry Kelly, head of art, design and technology at the secondary school, said: “It was a fun project and the children were able to talk about materials and costs and consider each other’s designs.”
The project was funded by the Chiltern Society’s Don Miller Trust.
