A CONCERT to celebrate Mozart’s birthday will be held at Norden Farm in Maidenhead.
The concert features the St John’s Chamber Orchestra, soprano singer Rebecca van den Berg, pianist Ke Ma and clarinettist Benjamin Aldren. The musicians will be conducted by Maidenhead resident Nigel Wilkinson.
Chinese-born Ke Ma began playing the piano at a very young age and won second prize in a national competition aged just five.
She has studied at the Royal Academy of Music and recently won third prize in the under-21 section of the Eittlingen International Competition for Young Pianists.
Both Rebecca and Benjamin are local musicians and make a welcome return to Norden Farm, performing alongside the orchestra. The concert’s programme features several of Mozart’s most popular and loved pieces. Symphony No. 17 in G, K.129, was written by the composer when he was just 16 years old.
This is followed by Clarinet Concerto in A, where Benjamin will take the lead. In contrast, this is one of Mozart’s last pieces of work. It is noted for the delicate interplay between soloist and orchestra.
Rebecca will be providing the solos on arias from Mitridate and The Marriage of Figaro and the concert closes with the energetic Pianist Concerto No. 19 in F, K. 459.
Norden Farm will host its annual Mozart birthday concert on Saturday, January 24, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £16 (£14.50 conc), (£5 under 16s).
