Curtain to go up on refurbishment

After a great deal of hard work behind and in front of the scenes, the curtain will soon be going up on a much-improved Mill at Sonning in the spring.

The extensive refurbishment aims to preserve, enhance and protect the converted 18th century flour mill, which is holding its popular dinner theatre evenings throughout the works.

The six-to eight-week schedule will see the foyer and Waterwheel Bar area redesigned to give a feeling of space and light and the original oak beams that run throughout the building will be stripped back to their natural state.

Managing director Sally Hughes said, “We will be holding more events in the new-look bar; from storytelling for children with cappuccinos and cake for their parents, to wine-tastings, book clubs, play readings and live music. A gorgeous setting with gorgeous food and drink.”

To show off its new space the theatre has commisssioned a new play - Dead of Night - inspired by the refurbishment works.



The play is about a group of actors who have been contracted for a night’s work at the Mill. They arrive to find the theatre dark and undergoing renovations, so make themselves at home in the bar and start work on their next project, a ghost play.

However, the situation starts to spin out of control as the actors realise the story has started to take on a frightening life of its own.
