ONE of the stars of a new theatre show visiting the town says the people of Henley will “love it”.
TV and film actor Jeremy Child will be starring at the Henley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society’s studio at the rear of the Kenton Theatre in New Street on Saturday, November 7, at 8pm.
He will play the title role in You Are My Heart’s Delight — the Life, Loves and Laughter of Harry Graham, which showcases the finest comic verse and songs of Graham, the writer of more than 30 operettas and musical comedies.
Mr Child, who has appeared in Midsomer Murders, EastEnders and Judge John Deed among other shows, said: “A couple of years ago Jeremy Nicholas, who put this together, came to me asked if I had heard of Harry Graham.
“He told me about him and ever since I’ve seen he is an extraordinary man.
“The show is an amazing mixture of his songs and spoken verse. It will be a lovely evening.”
Mr Nicholas plays the piano in the show and songs will be performed by tenor Stephen Weller and soprano Shona Lindsay.
Most of Mr Child’s performance will be spoken, though he will sing during the chorus of the songs from musicals such as TheMaid of the Mountains, The White Horse Inn and The Land of Smiles.
So far the show has been trialled at the Guildhall in Essex and the Garrick Club in London.
Mr Child, who has also been involved in the Henley Literary Festival, said: “Next year we hope to take it to festivals. Everything has gone to plan with performances so far and attendances have been good. I hope it will be well supported by the people of Henley. I encourage people to come because I know they will love it.”
